- His 550th Birthday.
Canada's contribution to the renowned artist.
The Stamp commemorates the 550th Birthday. Dürer was born on May 21, 1471 in Nuernberg,  Germany and passed on April 6, 1528 also in Nuernberg.
Our stamp is based on the painting "Self-Portrait in Furred Coat" painted in the year 1500, as shown on our First Day Cover.  Several other countries including Germany and Austria released commemorative Souvenir sheets for this ocassion. see scans
