Surveying Instrument
Bausch & Lomb Transit
in Box
Description:
This sale is for the large Engineers Bausch & Lomb Transit pictured. This unusual surveying instrument is in very good overall condition.
Bausch & Lomb is most famous for their line of binoculars and other optics. They ventured in to the surveying instrument field after George N. Saegmuller, the inventor of the solar attachment that bears his name, joined the company in 1905. They stopped making instruments for the general public during WWI. This transit has the logo the company adopted after 1907 further narrowing the date of manufacture. The serial number is 10496. There is a full and detailed history on the company at the SurveyHistory.org site.
The transit comes in the proper original box. It is a large, heavy, and overall nice condition piece. All motions are free, optics OK, good bubbles, crosshairs, etc. Box is nice. Note that the scope does not have the ability to fully revolve within the standards which speaks to the quality and level of optics involved.
A large, graphic, unusual, and nice looking surveying instrument that will make for a great addition to any number of collections.
