    Description

    This is an original Civil War era Federal Cap Box. It is stamped US on the flap, it is haed to see and harder to photograph. The inside flap is stamped by the maker JEWELL MAKER HARTFORD. Portions of the sheepskin inter flap are present with a tiny bit of fur. The nipple pick loop is present but not the pick. Brass finial in sort of an onion dome shape. p. Jewell & Sons, Hartford Connecticut had orders for 100,000 sets of accoutrements in 1861 and another 20,000 sets in 1862. with possible additional orders in later years.
