Tested - working well. No remote. Front flip down cover is broken off.  Tested recording to HDD from Camcorder and it recorded and played back well. Tested burning to DVD from Camcorder and it recorded and played back well. To force finalize DVD's to play in other players - you must have remote control.  There may be a setting where a DVD finalizes automatically when it is full, but I can't be sure.
it is actually one of the best DVD/HDD recorders ever sold in North America for people who just want to get down to business and not be aggravated by 1000 options and 400 quirks). In their heyday, they were the least buggy, most reliable units ever offered.
